The purpose of the Advisory Council is to provide NSV:
1) access to the expertise of professionals
2) broader visibility in communities where its members live
3) potential fundraising capacity
The Finance Committee’s responsibilities cover all aspects of monitoring and maintaining NSV’s overall financial health and stability through careful financial planning, ongoing oversight and regular communication and collaboration with the board of directors and committees of the board. To this end, the Finance Committee will help the board and membership understand the organization’s finances, ensure compliance with federal, state, and other financial requirements, and ensure that accurate and complete financial records are maintained. Endowment is a sub-committee under Finance. Endowment oversees the investments with Evanston Community Foundation.
The Governance Committee provides advice and counsel to the NSV board in fulfilling the basic responsibilities of nonprofit boards as defined by BoardSource and other experts in nonprofit governance.
The Membership Committee is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing plan to help NSV achieve its over-arching membership goals. The committee is also NSV’s welcoming representative to new members and helps to develop and implement policies, initiatives and programs that address member needs, engagement and satisfaction. The committee conducts periodic evaluation surveys to gauge member satisfaction, and assists the staff with renewal and retention activities when requested.
A Nominating Committee of five annually proposes the slates for board members, executive committee members and the nominating committee membership for the next year. The committee is chaired by a non-board member and, in addition, consists of two board members and two members.
The Program Committee develops, helps facilitate, and evaluates programs for the NSV
members. Entertaining and educational programs will reflect members' interests and will, when possible, utilize members' diverse talents and experience. Programs will also be developed to spotlight NSV. The committee will develop ways to connect members to other community programming.
The Volunteer Committee works with staff to manage and develop all aspects of and for the volunteer activities, including policies, recruitment, utilization, and appreciation. Members of the committee assist with screening volunteers and vendors, as well as maintaining records related to various areas of volunteer activity.
